Creosote buildup from wood stoves
Why it happens here
Many Brooklyn homes use wood stoves as a primary heat source. Slow-burning fires and unseasoned wood produce more creosote. The hilly suburb's cold winters mean stoves run constantly, so buildup happens fast.
Our approach
We clean the flue with wire brushes and a Sooteater, then treat heavy creosote with a chemical agent. We also teach customers how to burn hotter fires to reduce future buildup. We recommend annual chimney sweeps for wood stove owners.
