Glazed creosote in retrofitted coal flues
Why it happens here
Many Te Aro flues were built for coal and later converted to wood. The flue liners are often undersized for wood, which cools the smoke and lets creosote condense into a hard glaze that a standard brush cannot remove.
Our approach
We use a Sooteater rotary head and a wire brush sized to the flue to break down the glaze, then vacuum the debris. If the liner is too damaged, we recommend relining before the next season.
