Creosote buildup in older fireplaces
Why it happens here
Many Newtown homes were built for open fireplaces that burn inefficiently. That produces more creosote than a modern wood stove. Cold winters mean the flue stays cool, which lets creosote condense on the liner.
Our approach
We sweep the flue with a chimney brush and Sooteater rotary tool, then inspect with a camera. If we find glazed creosote, we use a creosote sweeping log and a second pass to remove it safely.
