Creosote buildup from damp wood and slow burns
Why it happens here
Hataitai homes sit in damp harbour air, and a lot of firewood here is not fully seasoned. Burning damp logs at low air settings produces wet, sticky creosote that clings to the flue instead of drying and flaking off. It builds fast.
Our approach
We sweep the full flue with correctly sized chimney rods and brushes, then check for glazed creosote that brushing alone will not remove. Where we find it, we treat it before we finish and tell you what wood to avoid next season.
